The Nature of Existence

Existential questions comprise the search human beings make to answer why we are here and what is the meaning of our lives. Roger Nygard roamed the globe, interviewing different spiritual leaders and individuals, to address these questions in “The Nature of Existence.” A few of the questions that he tackles includes: “Does God exist?” and “What started the universe?” He even examines the difference between Western and Eastern spiritual belief systems. The documentary is very interesting to watch if you have ever pondered these questions.

In the Deep

In the Deep

something so foreign to most

sounds like hearing an ancient, dead tongue

to gaze in the face of God

before it is time to return home

I remember love so very deep

yearning as soul protests

please allow me to stay here

diving where the dolphins sing

no more thought of burdens or illusions

just perfect crystal blue peace in the deep

hands sent me back and air filled my lungs

uncertain of reasons for my exile

always aching for that Home; a pilgrim wanderer

When Plans Go Awry

rather than a fierce grimace,

choosing the middle path,

Not furious screaming at top of lungs,

chuckling inwards at life’s absurdity.

flowing with the rapids,

instead of against,

as something greater than I:

laughed at my plans.

not in cruelty but rather I have something else,

just wait for it…

just wait for it…

just wait for it…

God’s punchline at the joke of our hubris,

when we don’t see;

deeper meanings,

when plans go awry.

Splendor in the Grass

Splendor in the Grass

It happened one night in grass

Two lovers shared special magic

Crossing chasms of ideal silence

Both young and unafraid

Trusting in love to see through

Past pain to joy hidden

Move past shadows of moon

Making love in grass

Meet the hearts of twisted lies

In the eyes of their elders

Who tell them making love

Equals the wages of sin

Love is for love’s true sake

As Romeo’s prayer’s effect

He does take with truth

Turn back on world in grass

What a loaded word.

Transcend this reality,

I am still breathing.

Convergence of,

Everything before nothingness,

I am still breathing.

Remembering the terror…

The real burning fear…

Yet I am still breathing.

Illusions of false power,

Based on mute threats,

I am still breathing.

In and out slowly,

Or rapid and quick,

But most of all I am still breathing.

Story is mine to write,

As long as I am breathing.
